Among experts the biological value (BV) of a substance is the most popular measure of the quality of its protein content. It summarises which proteins (either pure or a combination of several kinds of protein) can most readily be incorporated in the protein synthesis inside the cells of the organism. As a point of reference, an egg is given the value of 100. A common misconception is that this protein therefore can be 100 % implemented into the organism, which isn’t the case. Lactalbumine has the highest value at 104, and the lowest value of 0 is given to gelatine, which is often called a collagen protein (we don’t use it in our products, by the way, in contrast to some other, cheaper vendors). Basically, you can expect plant proteins to have a biological value far below 100, whereas proteins that originate from animals tend to have a value closer to the 100 mark. For this reason we use only animal proteins in our products (exception: Glutamine). By combining various kinds of proteins, however, the BV can be raised significantly above 100. For example, Protein 80 is made up of a combination of lactalbumine, calcium caseinate, and egg albumine, and reaches a BV of 124. That’s why this particular three-part protein is also highly valued among endurance sports athletes.
Recommended UseA single portion of 30 g (= 3 heaped tablespoons) should be stirred into 300 ml of fluid (milk, water, or fruit juice). Can be drunk equally well at mealtimes, in between mealtimes, or in the evenings just before sleep. Up to four single portions can be taken daily, as needed.
